Dr. Edwin Garcia, Jr. is an award-winning school leader, author, and civic leader committed to building cultures where people and potential thrive. With a career spanning education, public service, and private-sector leadership, Garcia is known for transforming school culture, strengthening systems, and leading with a people-centered approach that drives lasting impact.
Garcia currently serves as a school leader in the Passaic Public Schools and is the 2026 New Jersey State Assistant Principal of the Year, recognized for his transformational leadership, culture-building, and commitment to student success. His leadership has been marked by improved school climate, strengthened instructional systems, and a deep focus on relationships, belonging, and high expectations for both students and staff.
He is the Founder and CEO of Just Rise Edu, an education consulting organization focused on leadership development, school culture, and organizational growth. Beyond education, Garcia serves as Deputy Mayor of Civic Engagement, IT, and Communications for the City of Passaic and has held multiple leadership roles in community and nonprofit organizations, reflecting his dedication to service and community advancement.
Dr. Garcia holds a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University, a Master’s in Educational Technology from New Jersey City University, and a Bachelor of Science in Network and Communications Management from DeVry University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
An award-winning author, his first book, My Backpack Is Heavier Than Yours: The Plight of Marginalized Students, received the Literary Titan Gold Book Award, the International Firebird Book Award (1st Place, Education), and Amazon Best Seller recognition. His forthcoming book, Lead Anyway: The Human Side of School Leadership, reflects his belief that the most powerful leadership begins with presence, humanity, and courage.
